Rockin & Rollin

11 days out from our departure, and honestly, it’s going to be a rush to get everything done!

This week, I did a pre-pack to estimate the room that I would have in my backpack. Anyone who has traveled out of a backpack knows that the space you have can sometimes be hard to guess. There are many tricks to the trade, for example rolling your clothes, filling your shoes with socks, all sorts of things. And yet when you look at your empty bag, and the daunting pile of stuff to bring, it makes you wonder what magician is going to get it all to fit inside. Now Matt has been preparing for weeks – wearing clothes from his pack, rolling everything, and playing with how it will all fit. He makes it look easy, although every time you do laundry, you do have to roll it all again (cue hand cramps!).

Now I don’t want to judge, but gentlemen – you have it easier! Bring 2 outfits, a pair a simple sneakers and some manly essentials and you are good to go! Matt was even debating finding room for a tent! But ladies – we know our task is not so simple. If you know me, I wouldn’t consider myself a fashionista. I normally wear pretty simple clothes, with a little jewelry and few accessories. Over the past few months, I’ve been challenging myself to find items that have multiple purposes. Shoes that can be good for walking, but I can wear to a nice dinner. Clothes that can be easy to wash and dry, comfortable and yet look cute. And I’ll be honest…it wasn’t easy. But thanks to the gracious other travel bloggers out there, I got some ideas of outfits that were cute, had neutral color palates and for shoes that are multi functional.

So yesterday, I attempted to pack all of my things that I’ll need for a year a travel into a 50 liter backpack. Surprisingly, IT ALL FIT! I may look a bit like the Hunchback of Notre Dame walking around, but at a shocking 22.6 lbs, I can carry my pack and fit everything inside!

For fellow, female travelers – check out my itemized packing list below!
